    Thanks! When I was …
Thanks! When I was in cosmetology school, we were taught that hair and skin has a pH of 5.5, so that sounds like a good range to go for. Soap should be slightly more alkaline, and conditioner should be slightly more acid.

    The numbers on the …
The numbers on the side are just a scale of how much oil will be left unconverted. I suggest a 4 or 5. The higher the number the more mild the bar of soap will be. The closer to 0 you get the more chance you have of having left-over lye in the soap which would dry your skin out.

    I’m confused about …
I’m confused about the amount of lye to use. I used the calculater on your website, and understand the amount of water to use, but the chart on the right under where it says “superfatting” confuses me. What determines what number to use? I get the the final row on the right is the amount of ounces of lye to put in the water, but which one do you choose? Do the numbers represent pH balance? Thanks for the video and the help on your website.

I just make them up as I go along. As long as you use coconut, palm and olive oil you will have a really good bar of soap. You can visit metaphysical farms (link in the description) and they have a lye calculator to help you make your own recipe
